Male Breast (Gynecomastia)
Information coming soon ........
Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the United States. More and more women today are electing to have their breasts removed (mastectomy procedure) in the face of this diagnosis, even in cases where other options are available. Losing one’s breast can be both physical and emotionally debilitating. We believe that all patients who undergo either lumpectomy (part of the breast is removed) or mastectomy procedures should be offered the option of breast reconstruction to restore their physical and mental selves.
We offer a variety of approaches to breast reconstruction, including implant-based and tissue-based options. Implant-based reconstruction uses breasts implants instead of your own tissue. Tissue-based options include using skin, fat, and muscle from the belly, back, or legs. We will discuss all of these options with you and your breast surgeon and help you choose the right one. In many cases, working closely with the breast surgery team, the reconstruction can be performed at the same time as the mastectomy procedure. This leaves the patient with no interval time without a breast. In cases where a lumpectomy is performed and the patient has larger breasts, a breast reduction can be performed at the same time as the lumpectomy, leaving the patient with an improved overall breast appearance.
Breast Reduction/ Lift
Breasts will undergo many changes over the course of a woman's life, especially after bearing children and/or breastfeeding. Breast reduction surgery can help alleviate back and neck pain and achieve youthful anatomic proportions. It can also restore a balanced overall body shape and increase comfort during physical activity.
Natural breasts are rarely symmetric. All breast contouring procedures will generally improve on symmetry for these patients. For patients with breasts of very different size or shape, reshaping and symmetrizing their breasts can produce the balanced look they are seeking and allow them to wear bras and clothing with confidence.
In some cases, removing excess skin is enough to restore breast position and shape. A breast lift procedure repositions the breast and nipple to a more youthful level without significantly reducing breast size. For women who are comfortable with their breast size but not shape, this procedure can produce terrific results.
We perform a wide variety of breast surgeries, including augmentation, reduction, lift, symmetrization, and reconstruction. We also offer a variety of options for male breast reduction (gynecomastia). In each case, the procedure is tailored to the patient's natural shape and personal choices. All breast surgery consultations involve a thorough discussion of options and alternatives, as well as an overview of the anticipated preoperative and postoperative course.
The breast remains the hallmark of the female form. Breast augmentation surgery may offer the opportunity to improve a woman’s silhouette, replace lost volume, or simply balance out her proportions. Patients undergoing implant-based breast surgery may benefit from experimenting with the pre-consultation breast implant kit and educating themselves via the FDA's website.
We will perform a thorough preoperative assessment and help you choose the right size, shape, and material for your augmentation. Our goal is a well balance body shape, minimal scarring, and long-term maintenance of your new breasts. Well-planned procedures and carefully made choices can yield outstanding natural results.
